On March 8th, we celebrated International Women’s Day and many people around the globe shared their love and appreciation for women of different cultures, ages, religions and many more diversities. However, the world is filled with many incredible women who should be celebrated and respected every single day. Many times, it is difficult for women to be treated fairly or to gain the respect that they deserve so it is extremely important that each woman understands how powerful and important she is and the greatness in which she is capable. As a society, we must stand in unity and in support of one another in kindness and respect to honour and appreciate wonderful women.
Don’t compromise yourself. You are all you’ve got. There is no yesterday, no tomorrow, it’s all the same day. – Janis Joplin
There is not a textbook lifestyle or behaviour that embodies powerful or wonderful women. Power is achieved when you know your worth and make the choice to project your strengths onto the world. There is not one single definition of what defines power. Many people may believe that a “powerful woman” only refers to women in high career positions who are in charge of departments or who are bosses of businesses. Although these women are truly amazing, inspiring and are definitely powerful, they are not the only definition of what makes a woman important.
Power is within our mothers who gave us life and sacrificed so much so that we could be happy. Power is displayed through our best friends who hold us up when we are at our lowest and are there for us when we are in need. Power is within transgender women who may feel like they have to prove their womanhood and hold their power against people who don’t believe that they embody a “real woman”. Power is within women of every single race or religion who stand together and eliminate the divide, conquering stereotypes and owning their beautiful cultures. Power is within women who are mentally ill, physically ill or disabled. Power is within women who are poor, rich, or women who are shamed for what they wear or how they choose to express themselves and their individuality. It is quite impossible to name every single amazing woman in only one article because the amount is endless but, long story short, power is within every and any woman who believes she holds it – and she does.

To be a powerful woman includes empowering other wonderful women and offering support when faced with a challenge. Do not be afraid to show your strengths, be bold and be fearless. Show your talents and try your best in everything that you do. Keep gaining knowledge and always keep your passion for learning alive. Express yourself in whichever way you choose and forget those who tell you otherwise. Power is knowing how amazing you are and putting forth your incredible qualities into everything you do – whether it be work, relationships or your self-betterment. Power is in confidence and our confidence can grow stronger every day through positivity and respect for others and yourself.
Everyone has inside of her a piece of good news. The good news is that you don’t know how great you can be, how much you can love, what you can accomplish, and what your potential is. – Anne Frank
Women empowerment must include unity, diversity, and respect – including the respect and support from men too, you are not excluded! We, as a society, must stand together and recognize our importance and the power of our voices. Be loud. Be heard. Be strong. Be proud of yourself and your fellow sisters. Do not forget how incredible you are or what you are capable of achieving. Always keep your head held up high, never sell yourself short.
