The Toronto International Film Festival, commonly known as TIFF, is one of the largest film festivals in the world, with hundreds of thousands of people in attendance. This includes dozens of famous actors and directors. What many people do not realize, however, is that TIFF-related activities make for great dates! It takes the whole traditional “dinner and a movie” thing to the next level.
TIFF is comprised of hundreds of screenings, workshops, lectures, and opportunities to learn and grow your love for cinema. Plus, there are fabulous parties sprinkled throughout. Take your date and enjoy the festivities!
Festival Street
TIFF’s annual street festival is taking place from Sept. 6-9 along King Street between Peter Street and University Avenue. That means no cars or transit running between these streets until Monday at 5am. There will be everything from activities, live music, food, free movie screenings and many opportunities to celebrity-hunt. Plus, most things on festival street are completely free!
There will be a TTC Free Screening at Roy Thompson Hall on September 9th, where all you need is your Metropass or PRESTO card for free entry. There may also be people distributing free movie tickets along Festival Street, so be on the lookout!
There is also a free showing of Big, a Penny Marshall classic starring Tom Hanks. That makes for a date that’s both fun and affordable!
Eligible Magazine’s Bachelor Party
TIFF is a big party itself, but within the festival are smaller gatherings, which are usually invite-only, but some are free for all.
Luckily, your very own Eligible Magazine is throwing a party and you’re all invited! You have the chance to meet, mingle, and take photos with your favourite stars from The Bachelor/Bachelorette and Bachelor In Paradise. Meet Eric Bigger, Jordan Kimball, Jason Tartick, Blake Horstmann, and Bachelor Nation favourite couple Raven Gates and Adam Gottschalk! We will have an exclusive red carpet hosted by the host of The Bachelorette After-show, Jennifer Valentyne.
The VIP party starts at 8pm, exclusively for VIP ticket holders, media and celebrities. Tickets are $65, which also includes two drinks and entry into the “Rendezvous Dating” party, which starts at 10pm. That means even if you don’t have a date to take, you might pick one up while you’re there. Tickets for just the Rendezvous Party cost $25 in advance, or $30 at the door. BUT tickets may sell out, as they did last year, so get them now!
The party is on Friday, September 14th at Cube Nightclub, at 314 Queen St. West.
Tickets are available here. There are also Girls Night Out booth specials available for purchase. Get them before they’re all gone!
Celebrity-Watch
There will be tons of celebrities in town for the film festival, including Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, Steve Carrell, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Chris Pine, and many, many more! You and your boo can find these stars hanging around several places including hotels like the Bisha Hotel and The Ritz-Carlton, or restaurants like The Windsor Arms, Lavelle, Momofuku, Piano Piano and Soho House. Or hang around the Bell Lightbox and Festival Street to see celebs enjoying the action too. Soon, you could be on a double date with Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban!
